Model Market 2018 | Lewisham

After a sizzling summer, Model Market in Lewisham has finally closed up for 2018, and again I feel like I should have made it over there more often. Street Feast have always had a knack for creating incredible spaces (RIP Dalston Yard), and Model Market is the best of the current crop IMHO. Now in its 5th year, the once abandoned 1950s market just off Lewisham High Street came to life anew with a colourful array of street food micro-diners and bars, from the ground floor beer can station to the rooftop tequila shack.

On our most recent visit, we started with some serious steak from Up In My Grill – it was so good that we went back for seconds within the hour. N.B. You can currently sample their burgers at The King & Co. in Clapham Common until 3rd November. Next up was Mother Clucker for some their tea brined, buttermilk soaked, twice battered fried chicken strips. Ooh baby. Head to their permanent spot in Exmouth Market if you want some (which you do). Our final food hit came from Sodo Pizza who have locations all over East London. The Mary Jane with chard, celeriac, garlic & thyme mushrooms, caramelised onions, walnuts and chimichurri went down a treat. The rest of our time (and money) was spent at the wonderful Street Vin – their stylish wine bar with an absurdly good list, mostly sourced from Roberson Wine as far as I can tell. We got hooked on the Californian Moobuzz Monterey Pinot Noir 2013 and I’ve been eyeing up a case of it online ever since!

Model Market is now closed for 2018, but you can still make it to their other sites that are open all year round – Dinerama | Giant Robot | Hawker House | Public
